How do you express spirituality in your life?

Try to start each day with meditation, even if only for a minute. Be open to the signs of the universe. How we express our spirituality is determined by our personal, family and cultural experiences. Some people express their spirituality in a religious way.

This usually includes language, beliefs, and religious symbols. People maintain their religion through individual practices and participation in the rituals of their faith community. Religious people often turn to their faith and religious community for comfort and strength in difficult times. Some may find that their spiritual life is intimately linked to their association with a church, temple, mosque or synagogue.

Others may pray or find comfort in a personal relationship with God or with a higher power. Others seek meaning through their connections with nature or art. Like your sense of purpose, your personal definition of spirituality can change throughout your life, adapting to your own experiences and relationships. While the understanding of spirituality differs across religions and belief systems, it can be described by finding meaning and purpose in life.

Religion and spirituality are not understood in the same way, although they often overlap. Spirituality describes a much broader understanding of an individual's connection to the transcendent aspects of life. For example, some people may be more likely to have spiritual experiences in churches or other religious temples, while others may have these feelings when they enjoy nature. Spirituality universally connects in the understanding that suffering is part of human existence.

Although the causality of spiritual influence on physiological well-being is more difficult to demonstrate, there is ample evidence to highlight the benefits that one can experience from having a spiritual practice. Some people may seek spiritual experiences in all aspects of their lives, while others may be more likely to have these feelings in specific conditions or in certain places. People who are comfortable and comforted using spirituality as a coping mechanism for stress can be sure that there is even more evidence that this is a good idea for them.

Many positive psychology interventions are based on ancient religious and spiritual teachings, which are not normally included in the treatment of psychopathology. Through participation in a meditation program, increased spirituality reduced cases of depression. A descriptive, rather than prescriptive, understanding of spirituality can do more good than harm, especially when action is subsequently self-motivated. While people use many different religions and paths to find God or to express their spirituality, research has shown that those who are more religious or spiritual and use their spirituality to meet life's challenges experience many benefits for their health and well-being.

This, along with other research, demonstrates that there can be tangible and lasting benefits to maintaining participation in a spiritual community. While there will always be differences in the way people connect with their personal spirituality, having an open space for it to appear is an important point to start. Spirituality includes your spiritual practices or spiritual disciplines, which may include prayer, meditation, singing, breathing exercises, and ceremonies or rituals.
